Use the city’s basement-water questions to frame the assessment
Upper Arlington’s sewer guidance distinguishes floor-drain backup from water entering through walls or foundation areas. The city asks homeowners with floor-drain sewer backup to contact Public Service so the main can be checked.

Describe the entry point and rainfall timing
Record whether water rises from a floor drain, a sump pit or a wall joint, and which fixtures are affected. The city’s homeowner questionnaire uses these distinctions to guide investigation; they are observations, not a home diagnosis.
Bring the public-main result to the contractor
After the main is checked, ask the contractor to explain the evidence for a private lateral, roof drainage or sump-related finding. For a sewer-camera assessment, request the recording and the location of the observed defect.
Ask about ongoing backflow maintenance
Upper Arlington describes a sanitary backflow-prevention program with eligibility review. Do not assume a device or reimbursement is approved for your address. If a device is proposed, ask about access, maintenance and who will service it after installation.
Prepare the property and repair details
State Upper Arlington, the full address and the fixture or equipment involved. Describe whether water is still escaping, whether one or several fixtures are affected and any safe isolation already performed. If you are unsure of the source, say so rather than repeating an assumed diagnosis.
- Explain entry, parking and any building-access restrictions.
- Identify the person who may authorize repairs.
- Have prior inspection notes or equipment photographs available.
Arrange the right assessment
Call with your full address and ask whether the business handles your fixture or equipment. Confirm the visit charge and who can authorize repairs in a shared building.
