Plan the plumbing permit and inspection together
Columbus Building and Zoning Services publishes a dedicated plumbing permit application and inspection information. A repair quote should identify who checks the permit requirement, schedules any required inspection and supplies the final record.

Separate an equipment quote from the complete installation
For a water-heater or fixture replacement, identify the existing equipment, fuel or power supply, connections and access. Ask whether the quoted scope includes the connections, required approval, testing and disposal. A replacement unit price alone leaves those decisions unresolved.
Keep public-system questions separate from an indoor leak
Note whether the water appears inside the building, around the service entrance or in the street. Use the utility named on the bill for public-system concerns; describe the indoor symptom to the assessing business. The place name on a mailing address does not identify the failed section.
Retain an inspection trail
Ask for the permit identifier when applicable and the completion or inspection outcome. Save the tested finding and any equipment model so later work can be compared with what was actually installed.
Prepare the property and repair details
State Columbus, the full address and the fixture or equipment involved. Describe whether water is still escaping, whether one or several fixtures are affected and any safe isolation already performed. If you are unsure of the source, say so rather than repeating an assumed diagnosis.
- Explain entry, parking and any building-access restrictions.
- Identify the person who may authorize repairs.
- Have prior inspection notes or equipment photographs available.
Arrange the right assessment
Call with your full address and ask whether the business handles your fixture or equipment. Confirm the visit charge and who can authorize repairs in a shared building.
